MADISON, Wis. - The staff of the Government Accountability Board is recommending against implementing early voting for Wisconsin elections. After problems during last year's presidential election, the agency had been considering whether voters should be allowed to cast ballots over several weeks rather than just Election Day. The idea ran into stiff resistance from clerks who run local elections, who raised concerns about the cost, necessity and potential for fraud. The agency's final report recommends Wisconsin not pursue early voting, and instead make changes to improve the current system that allows no-excuse absentee voting. The agency's board is expected to consider the report at a meeting Thursday.
