Prairie Trail Bicyclists, walkers, and runners have a new and safer path into the Prairie Crossing retail center from the Prairie Trail located along the 151 Bypass. The paved connector path is located near the southeast corner of Prairie Crossing, the location of Festival Foods. Festival Foods pledged a generous donation toward the project with the balance of the project cost coming from the Fond du Lac County recreation trails budget. Users of the Prairie Trail have long wanted a connector path from the Prairie Crossing parking lot directly to the Prairie Trail. The retail center is a meeting point for a number of different group rides organized by area bicyclists. Other recreational and commuter bicyclists will use the trail connector to make shopping trips to retail businesses in the Prairie Crossing retail center. Construction of the paved connector path was completed by the Fond du Lac County Highway Department in September. In combination with this project, workers completed repairs to the Prairie Trail that eliminated a number of hazardous dips in the trail surface. The Fond du Lac County Parks Department will plow the Prairie Trail throughout this winter to allow year-round use of the trail. If use warrants, the trail will be maintained for year-round use in the future.
