MADISON — The state Public Service Commission is pushing back a new area code in the Green Bay area by two years from 2012 to 2014. The PSC previously directed a new area code of 274 be added in the existing 920 code zone because the area is running out of phone numbers due to cell phones, fax machines and other lines. But PSC officials say a combination of number conservation efforts and current economic conditions have extended the life of the 920 area code to mid-2014. They say they'll delay it as long as possible in order that residents not have to dial 10 digits for local calls. — The Associated Press
