Subject: Used Oil Filters and Absorbents Guidance now available The solid waste, hazardous waste and recycling programs in the Bureau of Waste and Materials Management collaborated to develop guidance to help implement 2009 Wisconsin Act 86 which bans the disposal of used oil filters and absorbents in Wisconsin landfills. We circulated a draft in June both internally and externally and took into consideration comments we received when developing the final document. The guidance document is WA1503 Used Oil Filters and Absorbents Landfill Ban - Questions and Answers. An associated document, WA233 Used Oil Management, was updated to reflect the new ban. These documents are available on the Waste and Materials Management searchable publications system at: http://dnr.wi.gov/org/aw/wm/publications/ To obtain the document, go to Searchable Publication System, click on Publication Search, scroll down to the 'Publication number' box and insert the publication number (e.g. WA1503) and click on the 'find' button. Then click on the pdf link. Our program is developing a Web page to help implement Act 86 that should be up and running by Dec. 1, 2010. It will provide the following items related to the landfill ban on used oil filters and absorbents: a.. 2009 Wisconsin Act 86 b.. WA1503 Used Oil Filters and Absorbents Landfill Ban - Questions and Answers c.. Fact Sheet d.. Presentation on Used Oil Filters and Absorbents e.. Questions to Ask Potential Vendors f..
