Wisconsin DNR News September marks opening dates for a number of fall hunting and fishing seasons MADISON - A number of hunting and fishing seasons will open in September, and hunters are encouraged to scout early and check out this year's rules and regulations to ensure a safe and successful year in the field. Upcoming September hunting and fishing season openers are as follows: Sept. 1 dove early Canada goose and early teal (waterfowl hunting) Sept. 5 hook and line lake sturgeon Sept. 9 bear Sept. 12 archery and crossbow deer fall turkey ruffed grouse cottontail rabbit gray and fox squirrel Sept. 19-20 youth waterfowl hunt; and Sept. 26. North Zone duck (waterfowl hunting) Just in time for the upcoming dove hunting season, bird hunters in Wisconsin can now find every managed dove field on Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources land with ease through the Fields & Forest Lands Interactive Gamebird Hunting Tool. For more information, search the DNR website dnr.wi.gov for keyword "FFLIGHT." FFLIGHT was designed to help upland gamebird hunters locate cover suitable for ruffed grouse and woodcock, managed dove fields and properties stocked with game farm pheasants. The tool allows hunters to quickly locate: cover suitable for ruffed grouse and woodcock; fields managed for mourning doves; and properties stocked with pheasants by the DNR.
