RIPON, Wis. (AP) – A proposed mega-dairy farm at Rosendale drew
hundreds to a hearing and those on both sides had plenty to say about
its potential environmental impact.

More than 500 people packed a hearing room in Ripon Thursday night
(January 22). The Department of Natural Resources must decide whether
to grant a wastewater discharge permit for Rosendale Dairy. As
proposed with 8,300 cows, it would be the state’s largest.
Timothy Theil of Rosendale lives near the farm. He’s among those
concerned about the large amount of manure produced and how it would
affect his well water.
Farm owner Jim Ostrum says the farm would be environmentally safe. He
says it will also support the state’s economy, pumping in $70 million
to build and run the operation.
