April 23, 2015 Lottery Credit Audit May Affect Property Tax Bill

The Fond du Lac County Treasurer’s Office is notifying the public that
the Wisconsin Department of Revenue is auditing the 2014 Lottery and
Gaming Credits claimed within Fond du Lac County. The Treasurer’s
Office has mailed information to those individuals that may be
affected by this audit. Please respond to the mailing on or before
May 8, 2015.

The current Lottery and Gaming law provides authorization to grant
the credit to Wisconsin residents who own a dwelling, and use the
dwelling as their primary residence as of the certification date
(January 1) of the year in which property taxes are levied. Primary
residence is defined as the home where an individual lives. If
temporarily absent, typically for a period no longer than 6 months
(hospital, vacation, incarcerated, etc), it is the home to which the
owner returns. Only one primary residence may be claimed. You can
not claim this credit on business property, rental units, land,
garages or other properties that are not your primary residence.

Last year the average lottery credit in Fond du Lac County was
approximately $113. The exact amount is based upon the school
district in which your home is located.

To verify if you received the Lottery and Gaming Credit please visit
the Fond du Lac County website www.fdlco.wi.gov, click on “Property &
Tax Data” followed by “Lottery & Gaming Credit Info”. The
instructions will help you obtain a duplicate copy of your tax bill
and determine whether or not you received the credit.

If you did not receive the 2014 credit and you qualify to receive it,
please refer to the instructions on how to file a Late Lottery and
Gaming Credit Application. The application along with instructions
can be obtained on the county’s website by clicking on “Property & Tax
Data” followed by “Lottery & Gaming Credit Info”. You must submit the
2014 late claim application and a copy of your 2014 tax bill to the
Wisconsin Department of Revenue by October 1, 2015. The Treasurer’s
office will assist you in completing the necessary paperwork to

2015, please refer to the instructions to obtain a Lottery and Gaming
Credit on your 2015 tax bill. Submit the 2015 application to the Fond
du Lac County Treasurer’s office by November 1, 2015. The Treasurer’s
