NOTICE OF REFERENDUMTOWN OF ASHFORD, FOND DU LAC COUNTY
April 7, 2020


NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that at an election to be held in the Town of Ashford on Tuesday, April 7, 2020, the following proposed Resolution of the Town of Ashford Town Board will be submitted to a vote of the people:

The Town Board of the Town of Ashford, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, does hereby ordain as follows:

That, pursuant to s. 60.30(1e(a), Wis. Stat., the office of town clerk shall be filled by appointment of a majority of the members-elect of the town board.

The term of office for the appointed position shall be set by the town board, but may not exceed 3 years, s. 60.30(1e)(c ), Wis. Stat.  The appointed officer may be re-appointed for additional terms, subject to town board approval. However, removal by the town board during a given term of office may only be for cause as defined under s. 17.001, Wis. Stat.  & s. 60.30(1e)(f), Wis. Stat.

This ordinance is subject to approval by the town electors in a referendum, which is hereby called by the Town Board to be held on April 7, 2020.  The referendum questions shall be:

“Shall the person holding the office of Clerk in the Town of Ashford be appointed by the town board?”                   

The salary of the appointed position shall be set by the town board and may not be reduced during the term of office.

The question will appear on the ballot as follows:

“Shall the person holding the office of Clerk in the Town of Ashford be appointed by the Town Board?”

EXPLANATION
The effect of a “yes” vote means that the Town Clerk position will be converted into a Town Board appointed office in the Town of Ashford.
